The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

Technical specialist with comprehensive knowledge in the area of electrical engineering, manufacturing processes, and/or software development. Helps drive the design and manufacture of continuous glucose monitors and biowearable sensors and systems.

What you'll work on

  • Planning and execution of design transfer from development to manufacturing for continuous glucose monitors and readers.

  • Develop electrical and product requirements, design specifications, test specifications, acceptance criteria, and limits.

  • Design and verify systems used for biosensor manufacture and test.

  • Provide technical guidance to external suppliers and third-party manufacturers.

  • Ensure that electrical design and test equipment meet applicable industry standards and regulations.

  • Assist with bring-up and validation of new SMT, plastics assembly, and packaging manufacturing lines.

  • Represent operations and R&D in cross-functional teams

  • Write and submit Engineering Change Orders into the product life cycle documentation system

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in Software Engineering, Electrical design and testing, Electrical or process verification and validation OR Associate’s degree with 10 years of related experience

  • 2+ years experience with high-volume automated manufacturing

  • 1+ years experience with process metrics and statistical analysis

  • 2+ years experience with electronic circuit design and layout (should be able to understand electrical schematics and review printed-circuit board layouts)

  • 2+ years experience with electrical testing and test automation with electrical lab equipment

  • Experience participating in code reviews, or software development in C#, Python, C++ or a similar language

  • Familiarity with embedded software development in C

  • Familiarity with wired and wireless communication protocols, e.g.: UART, SPI, NFC, Bluetooth

  • Experience in a regulated environment preferred (e.g.: ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, IEC 62304)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required ​

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical device experience preferred.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
