Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in a translational research laboratory in the Department of Surgery with principal investigators Dr. Lauren Krumeich (Endocrine Surgery) and Dr. Gary Hammer (Endocrinology). The candidate will focus on the immunologic response to adrenal tumors utilizing mouse models and human specimens. This position provides an opportunity to work closely with the principal investigators as well as with a dynamic team of collaborative researchers. We are considering candidates at all levels of experience and can adjust the position as appropriate for the candidate, but the ideal candidate will have successfully defended their PhD. This position comes with intentional, structured mentorship to help the fellow grow their institutional and national reputation.

Responsibilities*

The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team participating in basic science/applied bench research using a combination of cellular and molecular biological approaches including mouse model research. It is expected that the applicant will have knowledge and skill in:

  1. Cell culture techniques (maintaining established cell lines, cell transfection)

  2. Appropriate animal research techniques such as gender determination, proper handling and restraint of mice for routine procedures (e.g., physical examination, administration of medication), observation of mice for recognition of normal and abnormal physical and behavioral changes, anesthesia, euthanasia, and blood extraction.

  3. Animal tissue dissections, tissue fixation and sectioning, immunohistochemical staining.

  4. Single cell suspensions from isolated tissue, flow cytometry, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, ELISA.

  5. Analyzing data using Microsoft office, GraphPad and FlowJo.

  6. Data logs, reagent ordering, general lab maintenance (waste disposal, cleaning), and overall smooth functioning of laboratory.

The applicant would be expected to demonstrate proficiency in these techniques within the first 2 weeks of hire.

Required Qualifications*

  • Education and Experience: PhD and completion of postdoc in related scientific field of study.

  • Applicant must be hard working, highly motivated, well organized, and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Applicant must have excellent oral and written English communication skills, effective judgment and problem-solving skills, an ability to work as a team member with a wide variety of coworkers, efficient multi-tasking skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Background Screening
