Summer Internship - RAS & Robotic Engineering

POSITION PROFILE

Apply your engineering skills and experience to create data driven process improvements. This internship requires an appreciation for technical documentation and information accuracy. We're seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team for a variety of challenges this summer. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on the development of digital process flow optimization, content management systems, and electromechanical robotic systems.

Interns will gain hands-on experience by working on projects in focus areas of Ricoh Graphic Communications. They will assist in the completion of projects while learning and gaining experience in a professional environment.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Process Improvement : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze existing processes, identify bottlenecks, and propose solutions for optimization. Utilize your analytical skills to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.

2. Dataset Merging : Assist in the merging and integration of datasets from multiple input sources. Employ data manipulation techniques and programming skills to ensure accuracy and consistency of the finished product.

3. Technical Writing : Create clear and concise documentation for various processes, procedures, and technical specifications. Communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences through technical reports, manuals, and user guides.

4. Content Management : Manage and organize digital content including datasets, documents, and other resources. Develop and utilize strategies for efficient content storage, retrieval, and version control to support ongoing projects and initiatives.

5. Computer Science: Apply your knowledge of computer science principles and programming languages to support data analysis, automation, and software development tasks as needed. Contribute to the design and implementation of data-driven solutions to address business challenges.

6. Robotics : Assist in the design, development, and testing of robotic systems and components.

7. Cross-functional Teamwork : Collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas, solve technical challenges, and implement solutions.

8. System Integration of hardware and software components for robotics platforms, including computer vision for perception and environmental understanding.

9. Research and Analysis of computer vision technologies, algorithms, and applications in robotics and automation.

10. Algorithm Implementation and Optimization for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding.

11. Develop Prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations integrating computer vision sensors with robotics automation.

12. Documentation of Project: progress, results, and findings, for future reference and contribution to the technical state of the art

• Additionally, supports the specific functional area on special projects.

• Works closely with assigned manager and mentor to learn and understand the aspects of the assigned function.

• Researches, provides analysis, and offers solutions relating to a variety of functional projects

• Assists with daily activities of assigned function.

• May perform a variety of tasks at the direction of the management team and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications)

• Student must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university to be eligible for internship.

• Students should be pursuing a degree in a related major in the department of interest and possess some former work or internship experience. For example: Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

• Students should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Students are to successfully complete all required screenings prior to hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for process improvement.

• Detail oriented and organized.

• Superior interpersonal and written communication skills.

• Highly motivated with the ability to multi-task

• Possesses proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Proficiency in programming languages and database tools such as Python, R, or SQL for data manipulation and analysis.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively.

• Experience with data management tools and techniques, including dataset merging and manipulation.

• Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and appreciation for technical writing principles is a plus.

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Typically works in an office or laboratory environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level.

• Work assignments are diversified. Interpret, comprehend and apply complex material, data and instruction · prepare, provide and convey diversified information.

• Some physical effort required. Work is often office oriented, but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects typically weighing less than 10 kg.

• Moderate dexterity - regular application of basic skills and tools (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination.
