Merck Senior Portfolio Manager (Hybrid) in Durham, North Carolina

Job Description

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as site subject matter expert in rollout and implementation of Durham’s new project management software platform, OnePMO.

  • Participate in GVO OnePMO Community of Practice and network with other sites for OnePMO best practices.

  • Provide training on OnePMO as needed to site personnel.

  • Support, maintenance, and governance of the Durham capital project portfolio, including all active and future projects.

  • Provide portfolio updates and reports to site leadership and project management partners utilizing OnePMO reporting.

  • Provide governance oversight of all capital projects end-to-end, and serve as a project governance resource for site project management.

  • Perform regular progress checks on all projects to verify project status, accuracy of reporting, and identification of issues and risks.

  • Support the Site Capital Lead on development of small capital plan and long range capital plan.

  • Support site project management with review of project scope and funding documents.

  • Work with site finance to monitor and track project spending against plan.

  • Develop and maintain policies and practices to support portfolio management and project governance.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Finance

Required skills and experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, plant operations, maintenance, vaccine processes, and industry cGMP guidelines and practices is highly desirable

  • Experience managing small and mid-size capital projects in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or similar regulated industry

  • Experience with portfolio management software platforms, OnePMO preferred

Preferred skills and experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management best practices and tools

  • Familiar with all phases of capital project from conceptual design through detailed design, construction, startup, commissioning, and qualification

  • Project / time management skills which consistently deliver on-time, high quality work

  • Experience in facilitation and management of diverse team and functions toward a common project goal

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interface with all levels of the organization

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,…)

  • Able to understand project details, but keep overall “big picture” view of projects, priorities, and strategies

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Knows when and how to speak up and appropriately raise issues to team and management.

  • Keeps team members, colleagues, and management fully apprised of project status and issues

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
