McLaren Health Care Director Patient Care Services - Skilled Nursing Unit - McLaren Careers in Lapeer, Michigan

Position Summary:

Responsible for the department’s quality improvement program and participates in performance improvement activities, evaluation and planning of departmental/unit activities, orientation program in respective units, and all patient related clinical activities in area of jurisdiction at all times.

Assures compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.

Uses independent judgment to exercise authority on behalf of the

Medical

Center

, or effectively recommend such action in the following areas:

a.

May request, interview, and make hiring decisions in regard to personnel for this area

b.

May discipline subordinates according to

Medical

Center

procedure

c.

Responsible for assigning work to employees and directing the workflow in area of jurisdiction

d.

Attempts to resolve customer complaints/concerns (internal & external)

e.

Conducts annual performance appraisal interviews with subordinates;

f.

May, with Administrative approval, recommend and grant employee advancements/wage in­creases

2.

Responsible for the department’s quality improvement program and participates in performance improvement activities

3.

Responsible for the evaluation and planning of departmental/unit activities

4.

Responsible for all patient related clinical activities in area of jurisdiction at all times

5.

Oversees the achievement of the standards of Nursing practice commensurate with the Nursing Code of Ethics and Michigan Public Health Code

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must possess current Michigan RN license

  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in direct patient care

  • Minimum 3 years management experience in long-term care setting

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing with 4 years’ relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 2 years’ relevant experience or Master’s Degree in Nursing or health related field required, or to be completed within 2 years of hire/transfer

Position/Subsidiary Specific Expectations:

  • Expertise of long-term care guidelines as determined by the State of Michigan

  • Basic knowledge of MDS and Infection Control guidelines as it pertains to long-term care facilities

  • Participates inMedicalCenterand/or departmental quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as directed through identification of quality improvement opportunities, goal setting, collection and evaluation of data, implementation of action plans or related applications

  • Access to Protected Health Information in any format, whether oral, written, or through Electronic Information Systems will be in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and subject to disciplinary action when misused. Access to electronic information systems for this position is based on criteria found in a pre-determined system access matrix for classification specific function, found in HR Policy #580, “Using, Disclosing, and Requesting Only the Minimum Amount of Protected Health Information Necessary”.
