QUALITY SUPERVISOR

THE QUALITY SUPERVISOR WILL . . . Based on working knowledge of all machinery within area, perform a diversified range of moderately complex tasks related to the preparation of specimens by instrumental methods. Analyses consist of several complex steps, including type correction standards, and are completed under moderate supervision. Inspect test specimens for acceptable quality criteria, rejecting poor quality test specimens, and requesting replacement samples from internal customers as required. Prepare test specimens for analysis using various equipment. Assist in the improvement of process and product Quality at Carpenter to increase First Time Through (FTT). Assist and provide input in the establishment of Critical to Quality measures (CTQ), Key Process Characteristics (KCC), Key Control Characteristics (KCC), control plans and FMEA. Assist in Improving critical work center Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Participate in inspection, measurement and sampling method improvements (MSA). Maintain the Resample Log. Be responsible for all Quality Control Testing and Procedures at designated location. Be Responsible for all laboratory functions and training of laboratory personnel. Develop Work Instructions for Hourly Employees. Increase customer satisfaction by reducing claims, remakes, scrap and deviations from standard work. Maintain Customer Samples. Coordinates and schedules Outside Calibrations and 3rd Party Testing. Ensure compliance to customer and industry requirements including Nadcap (HT, MTL, UT), AS9100, AS9120, ISO 17025, ASTM and European Directive as well as other standards based on business requirements. Perform physical/analytical tests to ensure quality control using various methods including ICP/OES (primary) Microtrac, Sieve Analysis, Sample Preparation, and Combustion Analysis (C,S, N, O, H). Perform prescribed routine preventative maintenance checks, corrective maintenance and make adjustments as required on various sample preparation machinery and auxiliary equipment. Register new test specimens into the electronic laboratory management system. Properly identify samples and retain or discard these samples according to standard operating procedure. Accurately perform analysis of furnace and product specimens. Maintain these instruments according to intervals required by SOP. Review test data and apply appropriate corrections based on certified reference material analyses or other statistical means. Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE QUALITY SUPERVISOR Four-year degree in a technical field preferred, preferably with a major in Mechanical, Metallurgy or Industry Engineering. High School Diploma required. 5+ years of relevant quality experience required. Lab supervisory experience highly preferred. Knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures and knowledge of using instrument software and applying type correction to results. Ability to organize tasks and follow established priorities for processing samples and make appropriate decisions. Experience supporting the interaction with customers, suppliers and third party auditors related to quality system and product related issues and develop relationships with key customers and identify emerging needs. Knowledge of continuous improvement and root cause problem solving methodologies. Ability to improve quality through structured continuous improvement processes. Ability to develop departmental plans including business, production and/or organizational priorities. Manage resources to ensure financial and operational objectives are met. Experience managing, leading, coaching employees and have the ability to objectively evaluate the performance of others. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Strong problem-solving skills using statistical methods and project management skills.
