Responsibilities You will prepare or gather all necessary tools and equipment for project or assignment within the painting trade. You will perform shop support work. You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. You will follow oral directions given by team members to complete assignments. You will work with hand tools, power tools, or measuring devices for maintenance work on buildings, structures, grounds, fixtures, and utilities. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Uses hand and power tools and equipment that may require standing and holding tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as plywood sheets and other construction materials. Work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops. May lift and move materials up to 40lbs, unassisted and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in shops and at job sites. In shops, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. At job sites, maybe exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subjects to cuts, bruises, and contusions. May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty. May use protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators and gloves. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. Several vacancies may be filled. A 40-hour work week is typical for this position. The employee may be re-called to duty or required to work overtime on an emergency basis. Overtime, weekend, shift work is required. This position may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. Incumbent must possess a valid California Class C Driver License. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.
