Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Central Registry Cancer Data Coordinator I will be located in the Bureau of Cancer Epidemiology. The incumbent will coordinate data activities for the New York State Cancer Registry; serve as a key liaison to ITS staff, IMS, and to vendors of hospital cancer database management and reporting systems; conduct quality management activities; contribute to the preparation and organization of reports and other published materials; contribute to the preparation of the annual New York State Cancer Registry (NYSCR) "Call for Data" submissions as well as special submissions as needed; complete data linkage activities; and coordinate and conduct interstate data exchange. The incumbent will also advance national cancer surveillance initiatives by serving on CDC-NPCR, NCI-SEER, and NAACCR committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of experience conducting programmatic quality assurance and monitoring compliance with cancer coding; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in a biology or epidemiology. Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS)/Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR). Experience working in a central cancer registry. Experience monitoring data for compliance with cancer coding. Experience conducting trainings and providing technical assistance. Proficiency in SEERDMS. Experience writing SQL queries. Experience in data cleaning, management, and analysis using Excel, SEERStat, SAS, or other statistical programs. Experience interpreting and reporting data for a variety of audiences.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
