Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we’re transforming ourselves from conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force and we are the team making it happen.

This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

Your role

You will oversee a team of over 20 technicians, analysts and co-ordinators. You will be responsible for:

  • The Media Presentation Centre (MPC), the environment used to take our content to air and online across our radio, television and digital platforms

  • Our audio and video archiving system (our heritage collection), known as the Media Asset Management (MAM) system

  • Managing media workflows, including content acquisition, transformation and distribution and related infrastructure.

You will be responsible for operational excellence in infrastructure maintenance, ensuring 24-7 system support. You will be accountable for uptime targets, operational resiliency, critical response to issues with all day-to-day operations processes, continuous improvement and excellent service management. You must also stay abreast of industry best practices.

You will manage a multifaceted team, being accountable for leadership, engagement and coaching of staff. You will allocate assignments for effective resource utilization. You will provide focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, supporting career development and recognizing strong performance. You will champion a collaborative, high performance team dynamic and establish an inclusive workplace culture. You will embody corporate values such as respectful work environments, diversity and inclusion and integrity to support exemplary service delivery.

You will manage third-party relationships. You will oversee and design processes, runbooks and other workflows that maximize efficiency in conjunction with Engineering, Maintenance and external partners.

You will ensure that service level targets are established and met. You will evolve and implement meaningful metrics and data-centric decision-making. You will review and address any performance and capacity issues.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent

  • Three or more years’ experience in a management role with strong management competencies

  • Good knowledge of presentation systems and related operations

  • Good knowledge of the Media Asset Management (MAM) system and Avid MediaCentral

  • Ability to review and optimize automated workflows

  • Experience as part of a media company an asset
