Position Duties:

  • Welcomes patient and family members in a professional manner
  • Maintains a electronic patient log; keep track of patients in order of arrival, also used to calculate wait times
  • Ensure patient has necessary paperwork before being directed to Registration desk; physician order. If order isn’t available contact physician office to obtain
  • Register lab specimen registrations (i.e labouts). Check medical necessity on these labouts
  • Communicate closely with the 4 Registration clerks in Admitting as to number of patients waiting; issues working to resolve, etc.
  • Key patient status changes per phone calls received; Admit Surgery, Place Outpatient in a Bed, Admit Obstetrics patient, Admit Newborn, etc.
  • Interview incoming patients, his/her relatives, or other responsible individuals to obtain identifying and biographical information.
  • Search MPI completely and assign the correct medical record number. Notify Medical Records for any duplicate unit numbers
  • Escort patient to his/her destination or refer patient to an available escort
  • Work with physician offices and ancillary departments, obtaining or providing information when necessary.
  • Process patient charts according to paperwork flow needs and established productivity standards.
  • Answer any questions and explains policies clearly
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Document complaints received from patients, the medical staff, and ancillary departments on an incident report form and refer to coordinator for follow-up action.
  • Acknowledge, file, and send MOX messages via Meditech
  • Attends in-service presentations, and completes mandatory education week, including but not limited to, infection control, patient safety, quality improvements, MSDS and OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of occurrence reporting system and utilizes system to report potential patient safety issues.
  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”

  • Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Customer orientation - establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Interpersonal skills - able to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties
  • PC skills - demonstrates proficiency in PC applications as required
  • Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems
  • Basic skills - able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly, spell correctly and transcribe accurately

EDUCATION

· High school diploma or GED preferred

EXPERIENCE · Customer Service skills preferred · Registration experience preferred
