DEPARTMENT/TEAM DESCRIPTION-

Cosmos Team in the Pipeline Platform supporting Global Crop Science

POSITION SUMMARY-

The Cosmos team owns the Velocity Experiments app and its related Randomization service. Both are used by scientists and planners in Seeds and Traits as well as Crop Protection to design & execute scientific experiments in all phases of client product pipeline.

This year, the Cosmos team is enhancing the app with new locking and auditing functionality that will make it suitable for launch to Regulatory Science and for their trials that provide safety data to government agencies. Throughout the year, we will also be making various changes to reduce the footprint of the app and its support needs, turning off old API versions, removing duplicate functionality, and folding some services into others to reduce the complexity of the tech stack. These changes should position us well for major enhancements expected in 2025 for Crop Protection launches.

The team consists if developers that have been working for client for several years but are new to the space. The Product Manager is highly respected by the engineering community supporting business and technical goals. He has extensive knowledge of the business and a deep understanding of the data. The team has great collaboration and communication respecting opinions regardless of experience. They prefer to work primarily independent but do collaborate to solve complex problems and troubleshoot as needed.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The new team member will collaborate closely with the team to deliver on prioritized stories.

  • Collaborate daily with a team of Software Developers, Product Manager, Product Specialists, and UX Designer to build and support applications.

  • Work with team and Product Manager to manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.

  • Interact directly with business customers to gather and understand requirements and how they translate in application features Develop applications and services using the latest tools and technologies.

  • Deploy applications across all environments in collaboration with development team.

  • Perform unit and integration testing.

  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing.

  • Troubleshoot and debug applications.

  • Evaluate existing applications to refactor, update and add new features.

  • Develop any technical documentation needed to accurately represent application design and code.

  • Develop effective relationships & communicate within team, across teams, with Product Management, and with customers to increase the overall quality of products owned by the team and teams within the domain platform.

  • Identify opportunities to develop new and better solutions.

  • Provide guidance for technical design and architecture decisions within the team and across the domain platform.

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

Education Requirement(s):

o Bachelors in Computer Science

Skill & Competency Requirements:

  • AWS, Postgres, React/Redux, JavaScript, TypeScript

  • Excellent communication skills. Strong collaboration and teaming, self-starter and a willingness to express and challenge ideas is important. Ownership of filling skill gaps by incorporating self-learning.

Preferences:

  • While having experience in the tech stack is important, if the candidate has experience in a variety of areas and are self-starters, take ownership of their own learning, self-motivated and highly communicative, but only have experience with a portion of the tech, they will be considered for the role. They need to be willing to allocate some of their time getting up to speed.
