Title: Community Testing Specialist

Pay Rate:$41,600-45,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications

Location: 26 Bay Street, Staten Island, NY 10301

Schedule: This is a full-time, non-exempt position, generally working Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm; some flexibility required for weekend and evening events

Most work at CHASI happens face to face. Occasional remote days may be incorporated into the position's schedule if required for administrative duties (by supervisor approval).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Testing Specialist is housed within the Prevention & Intervention Department and is responsible for providing HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV), and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing-related services to at-risk individuals. The Community Testing Specialist also conducts in person and social media outreach at-risk individuals; education on consistent and proper use of male/ female condoms, and assistance with linkage and navigation services to help clients engage with medical care and/or any other social supportive services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide HIV, HCV, and STI counseling and testing

  • Conduct outreach and recruitment for testing services; seek out new venues for testing services.

  • Complete social media monthly reports and submit them to supervisor as well as VP of Communications and Development.

  • Provide referrals, linkage, and navigation services to clients as needed, including linkage to STI, medical, or any other ancillary services needed. Escort clients and follow up on referrals to confirm completion of referrals as needed.

  • Provide referral and resource information and link individuals who test positive for HIV, HCV, and/or STIs to medical and supportive services and confirm completion of referrals.

  • Deliver community-based education and risk reduction education and materials to targeted populations and the community.

  • Report weekly numbers and other documentation and perform data entry as required.

  • Attend supervision, team meetings, and contractual and agency- trainings to maintain information updates on relevant issues.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of experience providing community outreach, community engagement, and/or social services

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalency required

  • Completion of HIV or HCV pre/post Test Counseling and phlebotomy preferred; training will be provided if needed

  • Linkage and navigation experience highly preferred. Knowledge of community resources and organizations on Staten Island preferred

  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail, and ability to follow strict protocols

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Able to use computers effectively, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access software packages, as well as internet navigation; strong knowledge of Social media platforms preferred

  • Demonstrated ability and/ or commitment to working effectively with co-workers and clients from diverse backgrounds, with sensitivity to all ethnic and cultural backgrounds
