Position classification

Hybrid -- Job duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director. Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference.

What Success Looks Like In This Job

The Child Support Supervisor plans, organizes, and directs the work of the Child Support Services Team. Provides supervision for child support staff and activities required, including high levels of attention to detail and organization. Engages with both internal and external partners in federal, state, and local agencies to promote parental responsibility and strong families.

The Child Support Services team ensures children receive financial and medical support from each parent. This is accomplished by researching and establishing child support obligations, locating each parent, establishing paternity, and enforcing those obligations.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Administer and make recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting team members, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and taking corrective action.

  • Develops and updates team schedules. Addresses and rectifies any complaints, procedural problems, or team problems and develops team procedures as needed.

  • Establishes measurable goals and objectives for all team members .

  • Develops and implements job performance standards based on individual job descriptions, program goals, and state and federal standards.

  • Establishes work policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal program standards. Changes and approves standards based on programmatic changes.

  • Conducts regular unit and individual staff meetings, disseminating relevant Child Support Services program information and Department/Division work expectations and information.

  • Arranges work operations and assigns work to first line staff. Conducts analysis of problems, needs, tasks, and available resources to ensure completion of tasks and accomplishments of goals.

  • Reviews and monitors workflow of unit staff for quality, compliance with program standards, state and federal regulations, and statutes that govern the child support program.

  • Develops the performance enhancement plan, documents performance, provides performance feedback, and formally evaluates the work of team members for accuracy and completeness. Responds to management audits and case reviews. Participates in team meetings, State and County sponsored trainings, workgroups, and other activities as required to improve and enhance job performance.

  • Trains new staff members on applicable standards, regulations, and requirements for the assigned work area(s), orients staff with appropriate policies and procedures, and ensures that work conforms to policies, standards, and regulations.

  • Instructs unit staff through effective written and verbal communication. Interprets policies, rules, and regulations and instructs staff on how to proceed when faced with complicated and unique situations.

  • Consults and collaborates with other units within the section, other sections within Human Services, the county attorney's office, the state office of Child Support Services, the Family Support Registry (FSR), and the District Court to maintain an effective workflow.

  • Leads others through accountability and responsibility. Creates a nurturing organizational culture based on trust and integrity.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

  • Ability to successfully manage and motivate staff.

  • Ability to effectively use the following computerized systems and applications: ACSES, CBMS, Colorado Court Data Access, Work Number, ICSES, DMV, DOL, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Knowledge of Volume VI, federal and state regulations and mandates, Colorado Revised Statutes, and interstate laws applicable to child support services. Maintains such program knowledge by remaining current with program rules and regulations.

  • Ability to appropriately interpret court orders, apply legal remedies, and process cases based on program standards.

  • Ability to work with persons in crisis situations and in a high volume ; adaptable to a changing environment

  • Ability to make decisions, prioritize multiple tasks, organize workload, and demonstrate analytical application to complex situations.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

More Qualifications for Success

  • Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:Ability to work in a standard office environment.

  • Experience:

  • Five (5) years of technical or supervisory experience that provided knowledge of the child support program.

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • An Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred and may substitute for two years of the required experience.

  • License or Certificate:None.

  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
